How to Take Care of Your Hair

  1. Steps

    1. 1
    Dry Shampoo
and Massage: The scalp and hair should be cleansed between shampoos.
    • e "dry shampoo" is necessary. It is actually a form of scalp massage.
    • Preparations of orris, corn meal and other dry shampoo powders are not recommended. They stick, and it is hard to get them out of the hair.
    • A vigorous rubbing of the scalp after the hair has been parted, using a small piece of muslin over the tip of the finger, is best.
    • Hot and cold applications are good, with or without shampoo, especially if the hair is falling.
    • Remember that the hair should not be "hot-air" dried. The hot-air cone used for the purpose in hairdressing establishments destroys the hair. Human hair should always be dried by hand.
    • Scalp massage makes the hair grow and prevents many hair troubles. A five-minute finger-tip massage, night and morning, is the one ounce of prevention worth a pound of cure.
    • The electrical massage by a professional (after a shampoo), the violet ray, and the rubber-disk vibrator are all excellent for the hair. They strengthen and stimulate.
  2. 2
Hair tonics: Massage is the first and best hair tonic. Though a good scalp lotion may stimulate circulation, massage always does so more directly.
    • In general it will be wise to remember that tonics are meant for specific purposes of cure for hair disorders, rather than for common use.
    • A little refined beef marrow rubbed gently into the hair roots is a good natural tonic (though an old-fashioned one) and together with plenty of fresh air and sunshine, does more for the hair than all the compounded tonics and "restorers" marketed.
    • Every woman can keep her hair in good condition if she chooses to.
    • If she cannot give it attention in the morning she should do so at night.
  3. 3
Brush hair regularly to loosen dead skin cells and help brush out old hair styling creams/sprays. This also stimulates the scalp and helps to promote healthy hair growth.
  4. 4
Wash hair every other day with good-quality shampoo and conditioner chosen specifically for your hair type. (The most gentle you can find for your hair, as this will prevent over-drying.)
  5. 5
Towel-dry hair, squeezing hair between the towel. Do NOT rub the hair, this can weaken the follicle and make the hair brittle and dull. The cuticle of the hair will not lie flat, so it will not be smooth or shiny.
  6. 6
A "tiny" amount of olive oil or a similar oil can be used to give hair shine and to condition it. Beware of going overboard -- too much will make hair look like an oil slick.
  7. 7
Get a haircut to suit your face shape. If in doubt as to what would suit you best, ask your hairdresser.
  8. 8
Frizz-control serum can be used in small quantities to tame frizzies. Make sure you do not use too much, and wash once a week with a deep-cleanse shampoo to avoid build-up, which will leave hair looking dull and flaky.
  9. 9
Once a week, massage hair and scalp with coconut oil, wrap in gladwrap or a showercap, and leave overnight. In the morning, rinse well with water, and shampoo and condition as normal.
  10. 10
If you have dry hair, massage your head with your scalp nightly, for 5 minutes. This, like brushing, stimulates the oil glands to produce the amounts of natural serum needed to have glossy, moisturized hair.
  11. 11
Don't wash your hair too often, for this will dry out and damage your hair.
  12. 12
Putting too much heat in your hair can cause damage to the hair shaft and hair.
  13. 13
When brushing or combing hair, be gentle. Combing too roughly will cause your hair to break off each time you brush or comb.
  14. 14
Use some type of hair conditioner or oil creams to your hair, this will avoid dullness and dry looking hair.
  15. 15
Give yourself a hot oil treatment at least twice a month to maintain healthy shiny hair.
  16. 16
When blow drying your hair, put a oil or cream in it before you blow your hair to prevent the damages from the heat of the blow dryer onto your hair.
